The Dillard Doctrine

Urban Conservative Commentary on Politics & Life

A Cause Greater

“If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention … I’d forestall the launch of a national campaign and, frankly, I’d be making it easier for Sen. Clinton or Obama to win. Frankly, in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.”

“If this were only about me, I’d go on, but it’s never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America in this time of war, I feel I have to now stand aside, for our party and for our country.”

And with these statements, Mitt Romney suspended his campaign for president.

Here is a man who-unlike his democratic counterparts-was able to put aside his personal ambition to ensure the security of our country and the preservation of our democracy. Clinton and Barack Hussein Obama would do well to take notes.

Some words from John McCain: “Sacrifice for a cause greater than yourself, and you invest your life with the eminence of that cause, your self-respect assured.” Make no mistake: there is NO cause greater than that of the defense of our freedom.

Today, Romney put himself aside for that cause; gave his political blood to refresh the tree of liberty.

America stands stronger today because of men and women such as Mitt Romney. And if more people understood what was REALLY at stake here, our country would stand even stronger.
