Vets For Freedom National Heroes Tour: beginning 14 March

On March 14, the deck of the U.S.S. Midway in San Diego will serve as the launching pad for the first bus tour of its kind—a tour to thank recent American veterans, their families, and communities for supporting U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. After officially kicking-off the tour in California, a rotating group of highly-decorated vets from the Afghan and Iraq fronts will be traveling through 14 states on the Vets for Freedom National Heroes Tour (NHT), and will include:

Marcus Luttrell—Navy Cross recipient, sole survivor of a Navy SEALs mission gone awry, and author of New York Times best-seller Lone Survivor about his miraculous escape and survival

David Bellavia—author of House to House (a memoir about house-to-house combat in Iraq), recipient of the Silver Star, and nominee for the Medal of Honor.

Steve Russell—recipient of the Bronze Star medal with Valor Device for his actions in Iraq; Lieutenant Colonel Russell led the battalion responsible for the capture of Saddam Hussein.

These and other NHT Heroes will be meeting with local heroes at each stop, all of whom will be available for media interviews on war-related issues ranging from the recent pause of the drawdown by U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates, to General Petraeus’ anticipated April testimony on the state of Iraq.

The National Heroes tour will stop in Norfolk on April 6, Richmond on April 7, and Washington, DC on April 8. For more information, visit www.vetsforfreedom.org.
