We Are The Ones

Waxing poetic before this weekend…..

We are the ones who gave birth to this country in thought. We declared our inalienable rights, and defended them through force of arms.

We are the ones who set forth to make “a more perfect union.” We established freedom of speech, expression, religion…and protection.

When our country found itself torn apart, we are the ones who gave our lives to hold it together.

620,000 of us paid the reparations for slavery-in blood-and then swore that it would never exist again in our country.

No one has waited on us.

When our allies were threatened with destruction in the First War, we left our secure lives and shed blood alongside them.

When Nazism and fascism threatened them again, we came.

2,350 of us made the ultimate sacrifice at Pearl Harbor.

When communism emerged as a threat to our existence, we paid the price and bore the burden-for an ungrateful nation.

We are the ones who were shot down over foreign soil and imprisoned.

241 of us gave our lives in Beirut.

We are the ones who tore down the wall, without firing a shot.

When dictators sought to impose their will on the defenseless, we are the ones who acted. Without waiting.

When radical Islam brought its war to our shores, we are the ones who took it back to theirs.

Today, we are the ones who serve.

We are the ones who liberated the Afghan people

We are the ones who liberated Iraq

And when we are degraded by our countrymen and mocked by our leaders, we are the ones who hold the line…while they sleep.

We are the American military.

We are the American veterans.

We are the ones who wear the gold stars-not for recognition, but for remembrance of our ultimate sacrifice.

We are the patriots.

We are not the ones the country is waiting for.

We are the ones who stand for her.

  3. I’m not a poet in the least, but occasionally something eloquent comes forth. Thanks.
