On the Stupidity of Iraq Veterans Against the War

Apparently, IVAW has found a choir to preach their Winter Soldier foolishness to, in the form of the Congressional Progressive Caucus:

Congress has heard from politicians, pundits, and generals, but not, up to this point, from the average boots-on-the-ground soldier.

On May 15th, Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) and the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) begin the process of righting this imbalance with Winter Soldier on the Hill. Nine members of IVAW will testify under oath before the CPC about rules of engagement, the killing and abuse of civilians, the use of drop weapons, and the true consequences of the “surge.”

Let’s examine the first line of their release. I guess IVAW wasn’t paying attention in September 2007, when…..

On Tuesday September 18, 2007, over 250 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans – along with Blue and Gold star families – took their message to Capitol Hill. Veterans from 42 states met with over 60 Senators, and over 100 Representatives. The message was simple: support General Petraeus and America’s mission in Iraq.

Maybe they forgot about that one. Well, more recently….

April 8 2008 – Over 400 veterans from the Iraq and Afghan fronts surged through the halls of congress sharing the ground truths of their ‘boots on the ground’ experience with their Representatives and Senators. Vets for Freedom members from 48 states took part in almost 400 meetings with Senators and Representatives, and were present and mentioned during Ambassador Crocker and General Petraeus’ testimony before the Senate.

A little fact checking never hurt anyone. Hell, the last event is all over Vets for Freedom’s website. Big marquee at the top of the page; can’t miss it.

I’m almost certain the lies continue from there.

As in March, there’s another petition being circulated that requests that the CPC demand the truth from IVAW-whatever that “truth” is. If they have evidence of atrocities committed in Iraq and Afghanistan and can substantiate their claims, so be it; let’s hold some people accountable. If they’re just shooting their mouths off and lying about things they heard about (or made up), then they THEMSELVES should be held accountable for lying.

Unfortunately, this means I have to take another trip to the Hill, so there’ll probably be more of this to come.
