Urban Conservative Commentary on Politics & Life

Memo to the DNC

First off, congratulations on your historic moment last night. As a conservative American, the significance of nominating Barack Obama is not lost on those who disagree with you politically. I, for one, look forward to the continuation of that history tonight (though what’s up with the temple?).

Second, I am happy to see you all unified-somewhat. Because that’s what we, as conservatives, need you to be.

We want a fair fight on the issues. Yes, there was-and still is-mud to be slung. We’ll throw ours; you’ll throw yours. That’s the way the game is played.

But even after Hannity and Coulter have spoken, and “Operation Chaos” was ended, what we didn’t want was to win against a split party. It would’ve been too easy. We would’ve played to the sensitivites of the PUMAs (by the way, we’ll pull that ad now), and worked-with their covert and overt support-to march this election straight into the gutter. And we would’ve been successful; hey, it’s what we do.

As I took in your convention and watched the Clinton theater (let’s call it what it was), I thought that it was good to see them throw almost the same tenacity they brought to their campaigns behind Obama’s. You all needed that. Whether it plays out that way in the streets, I don’t know….but for the last couple of nights, it was what you all needed. You look like a real opponent now, as opposed to one with 18 million cracks.

So, with that, enjoy your moment. I’ll be watching, and thinking of the day when a conservative African American is afforded the same honor by the GOP. We’ll afford-albeit, with a measure of partisanship-Senator Obama the respect he’s earned, and that now is completely his.

And then we’ll throw the kitchen sink. But, in the back of our minds, we’ll take comfort in the fact that you’ll throw one right back. Cause, honestly, it’s more fun that way.

Welcome back. Let’s roll.
