Hampton Roads Tea Party

In continuation of the Tea Parties that took place to protests massive government spending, bailouts, and general fiscal irresponsibility, I yield the floor to Karen Hurd of Virginia Beach:

We are organizing a tax protest “tea party” to take place on April 15, 2009.  This is a non-partisan event designed to be creative and effective.  Our representatives are not listening to us on the bailout, TARP, the stimulus A.K.A. “porkulus” bill, and now the 3+ trillion dollar budget.   We in effect have “taxation without representation”.  Both major parties are to blame.  Our children and grandchildren will pay the price with their future.  Our country is being sold to foreign interests through bonds.

This has got to stop.  Washington is on a spending orgy.  ”Going forward” is become code for “we will do what we want, call it what we want, and give the public meaningless verbage about responsibility.  Later.  When it’s convenient for us”.

It doesn’t matter if you are a low-tax, fair-tax or flat tax supporter.  Our country is on a tipping point.  Our Founding Fathers were keenly aware of the addictive power of government and sought to limit it.  They took a bold move and created a nation unlike any other in the history of the world.  It’s a precious heritage.  We need to protect it.
