The Dillard Doctrine

Urban Conservative Commentary on Politics & Life

Lies, Damned Lies, and Statistics

Count this one under the second category. From an email I got from the lovely folks at OFA:

Over the next 11 days, the President will ask Republicans to make a choice:

Set aside party politics — or risk 19,500 Virginia jobs.

Because if a budget agreement isn’t reached by next Friday, the government will shut down — and the President has made clear that the current plan as proposed by congressional Republicans is not acceptable.

A question, however…if the government’s shut down, how are the said 19,500 jobs going to be lost? No supervisors to effect layoffs, no one to do the paperwork…and jobs don’t-contrary to popular belief-just disappear into thin air.

This is the kind of misguidedness that I don’t like about politics. It’s the politics of fear all over again….except this time, no one’s losing their lives. And people are going to read and react to it, without doing any research of their own.

Not a fan.
