Statement on the Execution of Osama bin Laden

Last night, President Obama announced that Osama bin Laden was executed in a military action led by U.S. Navy SEALs.

After a decade of war, our nation can celebrate the fact that the man most responsible for our greatest tragedy has received his due reward. While we as Christians know that vengeance belongs to God alone, we rejoice in our ability to deliver justice.

Both Presidents Bush and Obama deserve congratulations for this day. Many on both sides will spend the following days debating which president deserves more credit. However, for those of us who waged this war on terror-in Afghanistan, Iraq, Guantanamo, and places unacknowledged-we have the quiet confidence that, regardless of the shifting political winds, we have won the war we were sent to fight.

Even with bin Laden’s execution, evil remains. We must do everything in our power to prevent the rise of another like him, using every tool in our arsenal-from the intellectual weapons of diplomacy to the strength of our military.

Today, our children awake to a world where they need not live in fear of the greatest terrorist my generation has known. We hold the families of those lost on 9/11 in our thoughts, hoping that this moment will aid in their healing. And we pray that God, in His wisdom and power, will be the final judge.

  1. “Both Presidents Bush and Obama deserve congratulations for this day.”

Coby – C’mon. President Obama deserves congratulations for this day. I know you won’t post this note but revisionist history is below you.

You know Bush said he is truly not concerned about Bin Laden.
